COOP COOPER is an independently syndicated film critic with a split personality. His “Southern Side” prints mainstream reviews that appear in various print publications across the mid-south. His “Dark Side” from Los Angeles befouls the site with reviews of horror and grindhouse flicks. Welcome to the site where COOP’s two halves (and his contributors) review and debate the latest film/DVD releases…
Gerard Butler, once a D-list guy who once played Dracula 2000, soared to the status of ultra-badass status after playing the mythic King Leonidas in 300. Then he fumbled his new found success as an action star by starring in a couple of romantic comedies and a Guy Ritchie movie.
Now he’s poised to finally take his rightful place as a Hollywood star… at least for the rest of this year. His sci-fi action film Gamer releases next month.
On October 16, a more promising film starring Butler releases. Law Abiding Citizen stars Butler as Clyde, a family man who loses his wife and daughter in a home invasion robbery (kinda like Rolling Thunder). At the murder trial, the prosecuting lawyer, Nick (Jamie Foxx) cuts a deal that lets one of those burgling murderers go free. The enraged Clyde finds an ingenious way to get revenge on the murderers, but he doesn’t stop there. Oh no. He gives himself up to the cops, goes to prison and suddenly everyone responsible for the original miscarriage of justice (judges, lawyers, cops, etc.) starts dying in bafflingly inventive and high-tech ways. Nick soon learns there’s more to Clyde than meets the eye.
Check out the trailer. It’s something to get excited about…

Morgan Freeman asks Coop a question at THE BEST DAY premiere! Video below…
My short film THE BEST DAY premiered in October 2011 at the Delta Cinema in Clarksdale, Mississippi.
Little did I know I had a special guest in the audience who was about to ask me a question during the Q&A. Yep, I got a little flustered when I saw who it was.
