DISTRICT 9: New trailer reveals it’s way bigger than anyone expected! **UPDATED** by COOP

**UPDATE** call 1-866-666-6001 to leave a crank call to Sony Pictures about alien District 9 escapees and they might use your voice in their marketing campaign OR… possibly the movie???
I no longer worry about the fact that “District 9″ is essentially a remake of “Alien Nation.” Not after seeing this new trailer that proves this film aspires to be more than just a faux documentary about desperate aliens trying to adjust to harsh conditions on Earth. As you will see from the trailer, this is a big-budgeted sci-fi action film. There’s definitely more to it then just a thinly-veiled allegory about the South African Apartheid. It’s got plot layers I didn’t anticipate and cool-looking special effects that explains the expensive viral marketing campaign surrounding this film. This one could be a mega blockbuster that completely catches everyone off guard.
The trailer suggests a different tone than the somber original short film that inspired “D-9,” titled “Alive in Joburg” that released in 2005.
Before I go any further, first check out the trailer. I’ll guarantee you didn’t see this one coming…
Armored alien mechs? Rayguns? Ships disguised as junkyards? Bio-weapons? Army guys fighting aliens???
I’m sold.
I’m already speculating about the plot. Is it an invasion film? A story in which the South African government won’t let the aliens leave until they cough-up weapons tech, so the aliens fight to escape the planet? Which side will we root for?
Perhaps some of these “D-9″ viral videos hold some clues…
Or this one…
