A picture of Mickey Rourke as WHIPLASH in IRON MAN 2… Holy smokes, this is for real! by COOP

As usual, Ain’t It Cool News beat me to it…

I don’t freakin’ believe it.  I figured Whiplash was at the bottom of the list for villain in next “Iron Man” film but I was wrong.  Dead wrong…  and this here pic proves it:

Why go for Whiplash when you could’ve had higher profile, armored Russian villains like Titanium Man or The Crimson Dynamo?  I guess Favreau and Co. decided to go less on the nose with their villain choice, opting for a wild card rather than a completely suited-up, armored baddie.  I can respect that.

Besides, there are a few upsides to this:  1.  It’s Mickey Rourke.  He could make Howard the Duck interesting if he played the part.  2.  Mickey looks bats**t insane with the gold tooth, the streaky hair and the bare chest with prison tattoos underneath some sort of bionic exoskeleton.  3.  Stark’s power source is obviously powering Whiplash’s weaponry which means others are stealing his tech.  So what does this foreshadow??? 

ARMOR WARS, baby!!! 

It’s the direction I was always hoping they’d go for in the franchise and this appears to be a step in the right direction (hope, hope).
