To Dad’s that don’t want to watch any toons…I fart in your general direction! A majority of those are infinitely better than the “stupid” live action movie.

As for horror films…man, pulling those off in Hollywood is a rarity these days. I’m fine with Coop’s advise of sticking to the French and Thai (love the freakin’ Thai!)

As for family viewing, I’m sure the source plays a role, but I think it’s also got something to do with complacency and fatigue…depending on any number of prior circumstances, sometimes people just don’t wanna think when watching a movie…which only feeds the stupid movie phenomena.

Allen, don’t you worry about horror movies. Dark Side will tell you EXACTLY which ones suck ass or not. As of right now, when in doubt, trust the French (never thought I’d hear myself say THAT), Thai and Spanish horror films. Yeah, I agree. I don’t care if “Blart” exists as long as I got the better stuff to keep me occupied.

You know, Sebe. I didn’t consider the source but that’d be a great follow up article. To determine the difference between what the “American Dream” family goes to see in contrast to families in harsh, urban environments or other scenarios. What DO families in China go to see? There is a lot to look into and talk about there, you’re 100% correct.

How very depressing. Don’t you think the problem lies at the source? The American Dream? That’s what you’re describing with the working dad the 50’s mom and their 2.5 children, who probably all live behind a white picket fence. Don’t get me wrong; I’m not saying it would all be better if we were like China or anything like that. I’m just questioning what makes families evolve in the ways that they do. I think you’ve hit on a very big issue here.

True enough, man. The problem comes when certain genres or styles become sidelined, and it becomes difficult to find and see certain movies. An even worse scenario is what happened to horror in the late 90s – present, in that it became extremely streamlined and commercialized. To this day, I’m reluctant to watch a horror movie just because of all the total crap that’s been thrown out there recently in the genre.

Let the world have Paul Blart, as long as I can still find Suspiria and Taxi Driver.
