THE CROSS… the coolest Christian documentary ever? Trailer included! by COOP

Most pro-Christian films usually only get an audience of the most devout within the religion. Even with celebrities like Kirk Cameron championing the cause, very few quality Christian productions make it to the mass audiences.

I remember as a kid being encouraged by the faculty at our (church-based) elementary school to go see a film titled “Joni” (1980) in the theaters. It was a Christian inspirational story about a real-life woman (Joni Eareckson) who learned to paint with her mouth after becoming a paraplegic. I remember seeing it a couple of times, but it didn’t distract me much from my “Star Wars” and “Indiana Jones” kick.

Flash forward to 2009: A Christian film has finally caught my attention with a terrific trailer. “The Cross” is a documentary about an exceptional man named Arthur Blessitt who starts off spreading the word to hippies at his coffee shop in downtown Hollywood. After feeling a higher calling, he took the giant cross hanging off the wall of his shop and decided to “walk the Earth” with it (like Caine in “Kung Fu!). Starting in 1968, the doc chronicles his travels across the globe in which he carries his cross in every single country, completing his journey in 1998. Not satisfied with his achievement, he picks up his cross again and spends the next ten years carrying it though every island chain in the world. Over the course of his journey he was arrested 24 times and was nearly executed by firing squad. Despite the pitfalls, his epic adventure puts him in the middle of some of the world’s greatest historical moments, meeting with both world leaders and desperate people in need.

The sad news is that I’m reporting this late. “The Cross” entered theaters on March 27th, so if you want to catch it, better start looking for it this weekend.

Here’s the must-see trailer. This is how it’s done, folks…

I did see this trailer recently and I do want to see this movie soon, it looks good. I have been told that I have more myspace friends than Arthur Blessitt right now but I am not sure. I think we will see more and more Christian films and documentries that are actually worth watching. Even non Christians may enjoy some of these and not have an urge to vomit etc.

I would also like to say that I prefer the older, Christian ,Kirk Cameron. I actually think he is kinda hot! haha

That does look interesting. I can only imagine the stories this guy has. I’ll have to chek it out.

Another documentary which I think most social liberals (Christian & non Christian) would dig that also has a low/no puke factor is “For the Bible Tells Me So” . It did the festival circuit in 2007 and was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize @ Sundance. I know I’m partial becuase one of the guys in it goes to my church, but It was a great documentary.

    Check it out!
